Why Shouldn’t You Eat Raw Meat?

by Jack Wogan

No matter what way you choose to prepare the meat or even if you don’t cook it at all, it’s vital to identify its source. The meat you buy should come from animals that were properly raised and that it isn’t uncontaminated in any way. There are many butcheries which trade great quality meats and some of these have a website on the Internet. They usually are small family businesses which labor to stay on the market so they need to sell only good produce. I think it’s great that you can order your meat online because this means you don’t have to go to the supermarkets. They don’t have a great selection and can rarely trace the source of their meats.

When you cook it right and cut the fat as much as possible, meat is good for you. Most doctors consider that red meat should be eaten rarely but they also claim that when it comes to lowering cholesterol, lean beef is as good as skinless chicken. There surely are many types of meat but this doesn’t mean they are all good. Eating too much of the wrong types will increase the disease risk for you and your family. It’s only natural to wonder what the wrong types are.

Organic meat comes from naturally raised animals so you need to look for this nutritional kind when going shopping. Animals should be raised in humane and natural conditions, that is they should be given grass and not antibiotics, hormones and other drugs. Believe it or not, grass fed meat contains less fat and more omega-3 fatty acids, whereas the other kinds can literally poison you. Let’s not forget processed, fried, blackened or charred heavily grilled meats are the very unhealthy too.

There are people who suggest eating raw meat as an alternative to over-cooking, which often destroys part of the necessary enzymes and proteins. However, raw meat can cause food poisoning, indigestion and often increases the risk of salmonella or tapeworm infection. These aren’t the only bad effects of consuming raw meats. If your friends react well to a raw meat diet, you might not feel that well as every human being has an unique digestive system. It’s true that some meat and fish can safely be eaten raw, but this is also controversial.

The supporters of this kind of diet say that our ancestors also ate raw meat, and there is very little evidence of sickness due to its intake. In any case, if you consider consuming uncooked meat, consult a specialist beforehand. Even if the meat that is consumed raw is free-range or grass-fed, it doesn’t meat it will help you or that is high in vitamins, minerals and Omega-3 fatty acids. Even if you prepare meat well or don’t cook it at all, you still need to eat vegetables, fruits or dairy products. Remember that a balanced diet is the key to a healthy life.

If you don’t want to go shopping, the best option would be to find the most reliable online butchers.
