Track spikes are shoes used at most athletic events. They are lightweight shoes with spikes screwed into their bottom, or spike plate, in order to maximize traction (and therefore performance) while walking, throwing or jumping.

Most spikes have the toe of the shoe to show up, not the ground hit. This is called "taper" and is designed for the runner to run on their toes run faster. The more aggressive a shoe is, the stronger the cone.
