Tips to Help Parents Practice Proper Baby Skin Care

by Rory Millen

When you are a new parent it is easy to be intimidated by taking care of your baby’s skin. As a new parent it is easy to become overwhelmed with trying to be perfect. Would it help you to learn that common sense is at the heart of baby skin care? Keeping a baby’s skin clean does not involve expensive products.

Everything from the clothes you put onto your baby to the soap you use at bath time will affect your baby’s skin. Don’t stress out too much though: practicing good baby skin care does not have to be intricate or hard. It can be very easy if you know how to use your common sense. Here are some hints that you can use to help you as you figure out your new routine.

Skip the powder when you change your son or daughter’s diaper. Powder is popular because it absorbs moisture and helps your baby stay dry in his diaper.

The reason you want to skip the powder is because it is easy for the babies to inhale it; even heavier powders like corn starch are bad because those can grow yeast. Believe it or not, the best thing to do is simply wash the baby’s bottom with warm water and dry him with a clean cloth before putting a new diaper on him.

This will keep away diaper rashes and yeast problems. Skin needs clean, fresh air, especially a baby’s skin. You can reduce the number of rashes that your baby will experience by changing any used diapers immediately and avoiding putting your baby in tight clothing whenever possible.

Newborn infants need products that are specifically created for them. Don’t use skin care products meant for babies older than six months of age on your newborn. Your new baby’s skin will take time to learn how to deal with environmental factors that exist outside of your womb. The skin is super sensitive and easily irritated, unlike older babies’ and toddler’s skin which has had time to thicken up. Before you buy new products make sure that what you want to buy is newborn-friendly.

Squeeze the drops onto a washcloth and then use the lather to clean your baby’s body. You might find it easier, especially in the beginning months to lather and wash one part of the body at a time. A slippery soapy baby can be scary to deal with! Cleanliness is the main contributor to skin care.

You may be confronted with a lot of opinions when it comes to your baby’s skin care but the truth is that it doesn’t have to be time consuming, and expensive goal. All of our grown-up skin products do not help a baby keep their luxurious skin. Don’t throw your money away and risk your baby’s health. All it takes is a little research and intuition to get the right routine going. Remember, there is no need to overcomplicate something that is not complicated to begin with.
