The Great City Of London And It’s Attractions

The city of London is home to some of the world’s biggest tourist attractions and once you’re there, it’s hard to know where to begin because there’re so many things to see and do. To make sure that you leave London having done and seen everything the city has to offer, there are plenty of sites that you must see.

Probably the one that first springs to mind is of course, The London Eye, also called the Millennium Wheel. It opened for business in 1999 and looks like an over-sized ferris wheel. It is now one of the worlds biggest tourist attractions, despite facing scepticism when it opened.

Re-designed and re-built by Sir Christopher Wren in 1668, St. Paul’s Cathedral is another of London’s must see attractions. It is a breathtakingly beautiful building which is recognised today as one of Britain’s most iconic buildings.

Arguably the attraction with the most gruesome history, the Tower of London has been a prison and place of execution for London’s people in the past. It was built by William the Conqueror originally, to try and keep London’s rowdy rabble under wraps.

For the artistic types, there is of course, the Tate Modern. The modern art capital of the country and home to works from such esteemed modernists as Picasso, Matisse, Dali and perhaps most notably of all, Andy Warhol.

Possibly more famous than any other London attraction, Buckingham Palace is not only the official residence of the Queen of England, but it’s one of the most clearly recognisable buildings on Earth. Home to breathtaking works of art and open to guided tours, though not an official art gallery.

The last attraction that I will list here, but nowhere near the last thing to be seen, the Natural History Museum, built in 1881 to house the British Museums ever-expanding number of natural history specimens. The huge building, designed by Alfred Waterhouse and built using Victorian building techniques is a spectacle of wonder.

There are far too many great attractions in London to list here, but it will definitely take more than one day to see them all, and it is most definitely worth seeing them all. Therefore you will want a great hotel to stay at while you take in all the Great British culture, which there are also many of, its simply a matter of choosing the one that is right for you.
