Using a system of rewards as motivation to complete house repairs. I the movie "Serenity" and the philosophy of the old rocker Mick Jagger time to move forward ..

A reward yourself after completing a repair project

The creation of a system rewards has worked for me to help me stay on track to do house repairs. I promise myself I'll do something you really enjoy, if you first complete a task at home. When my wife and I were working furiously on our review of the latest project to the house, we said we were going to dinner at a good restaurant when we sold the house. That gave us something more than a boost to stay motivated. A few weeks later, someone made a firm offer on the house and we went to dinner and held as scheduled.

As it turned out we were a little premature in our celebration, as the deal fell through, and finally ended renting the house out. However, the reward system was still functioning.

A reward yourself after completing a Writing Project

This technique worked for me when I was writing my book on the fixer upper houses. One of my favorite movies is the science fiction Space-Opera "Serenity". I was still writing the book when "Serenity" came out on DVD. I rented it and really liked, like my children. So, to stay motivated, I vowed that I would not see "Serenity" again until after the publication of my book. My children and I agreed to have a gala screening of the film at that time.

Often during the stop-and-go process of writing, I would put the book aside in frustration or dissatisfaction with the way I was. But I said, "I have to keep plugging away so you can see" Serenity "again". Sometimes that's all the motivation I needed to get back on track.

When the book came out last year, my children and I bought a copy of the movie, and we had a "Serenity" by the parties. It was fresh popcorn, iced tea, and my brothers and me screaming our favorite lines along with characters (for eg "Boy, sure would be nice if we had some grenades, do not you?" or "We need to see Mr. Universe!"). It may seem that does not take much to entertain us, but we had a memorable moment.

Moving ahead

I recently read an article in the past, Prime-time rock star Mick Jagger said: "If I constantly try to move forward, I fear I may lose." There are times during the repair process when placed in a depression, and appears to be bogged down by a swamp without getting closer to the final. As Mick Jagger, we must strive to advance avoid getting lost.

Set your own reward system to keep the fix-up clatter of the train ahead.

The Wizard of Oz The Wizard of Oz
$7.00

When it was released during Hollywood's golden year of 1939,The Wizard of Oz didn't start out as the perennial classic it has since become. The film did respectable business, but it wasn't until its debut on television that this family favorite saw its popularity soar. And while Oz's TV broadcasts are now controlled by media mogul Ted Turner (who owns the rights), the advent of home video has made...
Concert for George Concert for George

Exceptionally moving but not the least bit sentimental, Concert for George is a splendid tribute to the late George Harrison, whose contributions to the Beatles were so often hidden in the long shadows of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Monty Python's Life Of Brian - The Immaculate Edition [Blu-ray] Monty Python's Life Of Brian - The Immaculate Edition [Blu-ray]
$11.50

"Blessed are the cheesemakers," a wise man once said. Or maybe not. But the point is Monty Python's Life of Brian is a religious satire that does not target specific religions or religious leaders (like, say, Jesus of Nazareth). Instead, it pokes fun at the mindless and fanatical among their followers--it's an attack on religious zealotry and hypocrisy--things that that fellow from Nazareth didn't...
Lost: The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray] Lost: The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray]
$27.39

Season four of Lost was a fine return to form for the series, which polarized its audience the year before with its focus on The Others and not enough on our original crash victims. That season's finale introduced a new storytelling device--the flash-forward--that's employed to great effect this time around; by showing who actually got off the island (known as the Oceanic Six), the viewer is able ...
