Breedlove's Atlas Series contains a number of different basses, including ABJ250/SM4, what is done with the body of Breedlove's Jumbo (seventeen inch Lower Bout, with bodies of five inches deep on the block queue and a depth of four inches from the body at the heel) with a smooth cut. The top is solid spruce Sitka, while the sides / back are made from mahogany. The combination of Sitka spruce and mahogany in results a deep and mellow, sound.

In addition, the acoustic bass guitar produces decent volume as a result of the body jumbo jet (not to mention the beam bridge system JLD – a rare acoustic bass guitar with the factory installed). One of the biggest complaints about acoustic bass guitars, is that they do not have the volume necessary to play without an amplifier. The ABJ250/SM is not very strong by any means, but the volume is sufficient to play unplugged with perhaps two or three other guitars / mandolins / banjos, but more than the bass would be defeated.

What I like About this acoustic bass guitar is its clear note separation. I even used a pick and I did a little bluegrass and flatpicking, although you can expect a wall truncated low notes came through cleanly.

Characteristics of the ABJ250 / SM4 include a hard case, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, pearl position markers, satin finish, Tusq nut and saddle, JLD Bridge Truss, Fishman Classic IV pickup with optimized low EQ, chrome Grover tuners, satin finish, and abalone rosette with black border.
