Ingrown toenails, also called stepfathers, nails are growing in the flesh of the finger rather than up. This causes pain and in many cases, infection serious.

The second stage of an ingrown toenail involves secretion thick fluid around the nail. The pain will be much more and will be impossible to wear closed shoes. The third and final stage is where the granulation tissue is already very evident in the lateral nail fold. The infection is in its advanced stage and the pain will become unbearable. Even walking will become a painful during this stage.

To avoid experiencing these extreme effects of an ingrown toenail, you should go into treatment once you see the first symptoms. When infection has not started yet, you can try soaking your feet with the ingrown toenail in a basin of hot water to soften the granulation tissue has formed along of the nail. You can then use a silver nitrate ointment to completely remove the tissue.

In more advanced cases will have to take medication to reduce swelling and remove the infection from the fingernails and health before attempting to remove the granulation tissue or embedded fingernail.
