Shoe Laces

Dressing is not a problem for everyone with arthritis, but even the little aches and pains may interfere with certain tasks daily on a regular basis. Regardless of the severity of your arthritis is, you may find you need to make some changes in the way you dress to accommodate your arthritis. Here are some tips to follow to make these changes smoothly and easily.
First, examine the joints that cause the most difficulty you with dressing, especially in the morning. Remember that the stiffness of arthritis can take over an hour to disappear after you get out of bed and you do not want to wait that long to get dressed. Adapt the way you dress to work around these joints stiff particular ensure that you are not thrown calendar.
Next, decide whether an adjustment is easy to solve the problem. It could be that your hips and knees are stiff in the morning and can not bend to put your socks and shoes. If so, try sitting on the bed or a chair, a stool in front of you. Use your hands to help out each leg on the step, then fold the shortest distance to put on socks and shoes. Another common problem (for women) is that your shoulders are too stiff to reach around behind your back to plug in your bra. In this case, put your bra behind your back, hang on to forward, then slide it around and place your arms through the straps. These are just two examples of simple modifications you can do at home with clothing you and items you already have around the house.
If your stiffness is a slightly more severe in the morning, you may need to buy different types of clothing. This does not mean you need to buy suitable clothing. You just need to think more about the clothes you buy. If you have difficulty raising the arms because of shoulder stiffness, buy shirts or blouses before closing. Avoid pullover or, if you must have them, make sure they are big and bulk. If your fingers will not move in the morning, avoid clothes with small buttons or brackets. Make sure you have tabs large zippers. Buy pants with elastic waistbands. If you have difficulty bending due to pain back or hip, wear shoes or slip on shoes with velcro closure. Make sure your socks stretch easily. Avoid heels.
Adaptive devices can also make dressing easier without having to buy special clothes. Such devices have existed for many years. Before the Internet, you usually having to purchase these items with the help of occupational therapists who had access to medical providers that distributed such material. Now anyone can purchase these devices directly. If you have trouble bending, elastic laces and a shoehorn time will help you to slip your shoes on and off. If your fingers are too stiff to pinch those tiny zipper tabs, use a zipper pull that plug into the tab and pull the zipper closed. There are dozens of devices available to accommodate almost any problem. A good source for devices adaptation to arthritis is The Wright Stuff Inc. Arthritis supplies http://www.arthritissupplies.com
Many of the devices listed above have actually been invented by occupational therapists. If you do not understand how to use them or if you need help to solve your problems with the dressing at home, you may want to consult an occupational therapist in your area. Check with your health insurance plan for a list of therapists who provide outpatient services.
