The Iguana family is considered the most important among lizard families. Although the most common are the green iguanas, there are also those with different colors, including red iguanas. One of the most popular red iguanas is the skink red side. They are found in the forest habitat of southern and eastern Africa.
Caring for the Red Iguana
An iguana can stay red in an aquarium 30 gallons. They may vary in size and styles of glass, metal or wood. The requirement base to keep their cage clean. Keep it free of dirt, loose soil and bark as they may be contaminated and the Iguana May ingest them. They must be provided with adequate supply of food and water. The cage must be provided with branches and twigs, rocks, but must be disinfected to prevent infection.
Iguanas must be properly maintained. Swimming is fun. It can be done using warm water. Care must be given not to startle or panic during the iguanas swim.
Iguanas must be handled carefully and often tame. They show inclination to pet owners who treat them regularly. We must approach them gently and held 3 times per day for fifteen minutes each. Iguanas are herbivores, so they must be fed with vegetable varieties and fruit. The majority of dietary intake should be more on leafy vegetables. Restriction must be placed on foods rich in protein. They must be fed every day.
Water is very essential, it should be readily available. Normally, they get the content of the water through the plants they eat. They need water regularly to avoid being dehydrated as they face the body heat necessary.
If proper care and diet is not given to the iguanas, they may contract the disease. Some evils that iguanas May contract are:
1. Back and leg paralysis tail – This is due to a deficiency in vitamin B1. This requires veterinary attention who will administer the injection of vitamins and minerals.
2. Nose Abrasions – Attempts to escape from their cage May cause abrasions of the nose and face. Usually, they rub their nose on the corner of their aquarium. Abrasions may be caused by broken glass, the son, metals loose sharp objects. This May be avoided regular inspection of their cages and removing potential damage to the iguana.
3. Victims of heat – They are generally acquired due to contact with the heaters for their iguanas cage. Typical causes light bulbs are hot, hot stones. The care and attention must be observed provide heat in the installation of the cage.
4. Bacterial infection – this can make a rule if the cage is unkempt, dirty and wet. Gangrene set in May with their toes and tail where bacteria usually attack.
5. Parasites – Also due preparation unsanitized surrounding and unhealthy food. Parasites May settle in the internal organs of the Iguana, as the gastrointestinal tract. This case May be fatal if not treated early.
