Safety Mat
For my first assignment with Feurteventura News, I thought I would write about what I know: the socializing! As I leafed through the issue The most recent commercials bar caught my eye. Many bars in Caleta de Fuste choose to advertise with the paper, and it is these bars that I am more concerned by. If your bar or your favorite bar is not here, she is down to draw, or that they choose to advertise elsewhere, as appropriate.
I hope this will be an ongoing series, so all is not lost yet.
I decided to walk around some bars of the island and examine them on night 2 hours, my Out. I would not be scoring or judging on the details, as I think it would be a bit too clinical. I wrote the names of all the bars and put them into groups of the city, then I pulled out 6 random for each of the major cities. First to be Caleta de Fuste, a tourist town booming, just south of the airport. I am sure you aware of Caleta de Fuste as it is a major tourist places of the island, and some but not all, of the bars reflect this reality. Just like in appearance Corralejo, Caleta may seem a bit garish for abroad, but look a little more, as I have, and you will find great places to eat and drink, plenty to do in the day, couple of great beaches safe for children, and many cafes and pubs too. But today, we will arrange with a bar:
The Slap N 'Tickle, Caleta de Fuste.
This bar was Running for just over a year ago by four fine; Natalie Rhys, Paul and Michele, before the bar was a garage for the pool equipment, so they did very well to make this a great place for a night out, as I discovered.
I arrived in the time allotted to 8pm (once, I'll use all the bars for this item with a start time of 10pm) I took my up to the bar (again something I will repeat, for review), and was served by Natalie, a nice woman and funny with the dirtiest laugh you'll ever hear. She served an excellent pint and began chatting amiably about this and that, she said the best bars on the first anniversary recent years, and even gave me at shirt to commemorate this fact. Natalie herself was busy with other customers their PR man raised in a family of four young gays, Rhys immediately made them feel welcome with free shots for adults and soft drinks for children. The lost children in the immediate area for children, part of the bar closed by walls of glass and filled with toys, a Wendy House, a Play Station, a blackboard and some flooring safety mats. I think it's a great idea, mom and mom can get drunk (or drunk ISH) knowing that children can not hurt us apart, and they are busy for a while.
From my point of view, I noticed the rest of the patrons seemed a happy bunch, and some joined enthusiastically in the tail end of the quiz. A couple desperately need to do more because they gave all the right answers for intro music issue. I Follyfoot, and Black Beauty right, so I was feeling too smug.
Over in one corner, a group of 6 girls celebrate one of their numbers eighteenth birthday. Happy Birthday signs were scattered in the corner like balloons and banners. The drinks flowed freely, and girls seem to have had a great time. Paul later told me that they do for birthdays of any person residing the free complex, and it is usually at least one week. A nice touch and proof that simple can go so far to make someone's day around thing, and vacation more memorable.
As the test ended, Paul went on stage and distributed books to track. I'm not a fan of karaoke, but it was actually pretty good, Paul sang a few songs to get the crowd into the mood, and then one by one, patrons brave the list for a go. Very fun, but if you can not sing, but some would say the opposite is true. I would learn that later, "Elvis is in the building," as they have made several times a week too.
I left the bar, happy, a little before ten o'clock to the strains of the hymn Slap N Tickle "Sweet Caroline" – had to be there …
In all a great bar with a family atmosphere and party a lot of noise, many drinks very cheap, they serve food also very good at exceptional prices until 10pm (chips with curry sauce is the accompaniment perfect for a beer and singing, do not you think?). The bar is open until the "end".
A taxi home I think.
