Heart rate and pulse pedometer reading? Please help!?

I just received a box of pedometers to use with my students. While tested with other adults whose heart rate are each about 80-90, mine either 0 or between 141-171 indicates, while at rest (pulse of the fingers) tried friends rate heart monitor that is placed around the torso and got 88, but still could not get anyone to read and very high with the flick of a finger????

The monitor may be defective or not used properly. They are very easy to use, so I'm going to assume it is defective. Call the company for a replacement. In addition, heart monitors worn on the wrist provides better results. Best of luck
