Ovarian Cysts: Treat them Naturally Today

by Lesli Patterson

Many women will have ovarian cysts in their lifetime; however the majority of the ovarian cysts will come and go without us knowing about them, or feeling them. Out of all the women, there are several women that have ovarian cysts, and are very much aware of them. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs on your ovaries. They can vary in size from the size of an almond to the size of a baseball. You can get one at a time or many at a time.

If you are experiencing any or all of the following symptoms, it is important to go to the doctor and verify if it is ovarian cysts or if it is another medical condition: irregular or sudden stop of menstrual periods, intense menstrual cramps, pain in the pelvic and/or lower back area, unaccounted weight gain. These are all symptoms of ovarian cysts, but they can also be symptoms for some other medical conditions. It is always best to be sure about the diagnosis before you start treatment.

If it is determined that it is ovarian cysts, you may feel very overwhelmed and anxious emotionally and in a lot of pain physically. You most likely want nothing more than to get rid of the pain and the ovarian cyst(s). Well, the good news is, there is relief from ovarian cysts!

Once you and your doctor determined it was ovarian cysts, the possible ways of treatment most likely came up. You were most likely told that there were three options: pain pills, surgery, or birth control pills. Your doctor probably went through the possible side effects for each of those, and you may have determined that you did not like any of those choices, or you may be still deciding. If not, here are some things to think about while deciding what is best.

You have most likely already been taking any over the counter pain pills that you can find, and they are most likely not doing any good, or if it is not much at all. Your option would be to have prescription pain pills, which would most likely help a little more, however you most likely will feel drowsy and lethargic and feel like you are not even able to live your life and enjoy it.

The surgery that they would use is called a laparoscopy. They do a little incision in your belly button and by your hip, and by inserting a probe with an attached video camera, and a small torch device, they burn the cyst(s) off. As they are burning the cyst off, there is a chance that they can burn part of your ovary which can make fertility an issue in the future. Remember, your ovaries are very small, so even the littlest part burned is a pretty big part.

The theory by using birth control pills as treatment is to simply stop you from ovulating. True, that may prevent any new ovarian cysts to form as that is when cysts form, however it does not treat the existing cysts and certainly does not stop the pain. Add that to the common side effects of mood swings and weight gain, you will need to be very diligent in taking them every day. If you are currently trying to get pregnant or wanting to in the near future, you would not be able to.

You may be feeling even more overwhelmed right now as you are trying to decide the best course of treatment, and none of the above three sound like an option that you want to do. There is good news: that there are several more natural remedies that can provide quick relief from your pain as well as get your existing cysts to go away and prevent future cysts to come.

Some natural treatments to provide with the pain relief right away are by using heat. By using a heating pad, and alternating it between your lower abdomen and lower back, 10-15 minutes each side, or by taking a hot bath. If you do not have a heating pad, by throwing a towel in the dryer for a few minutes, folding it and placing it on your lower abdomen will work as well. The heat also increases the blood flow to the cyst, and that may start to shrink the cyst.

There are lots of women that have ovarian cysts that are not aware of them; however there are also lots of women that are aware of their ovarian cysts. Just because you have ovarian cysts does not mean you have to suffer with them any longer. You can start getting relief from your discomfort and pain, and your irritation today and get your life back to pain free!
