An artwork that is the 1938 painting entitled "Zebras" by Victor Vasarely, which many consider the pioneer of the abstract movement. Other artists like Bridget Riley, Jesus Rafael Soto, Richard Anuszkiewicz and François Morellet has also created images which could be classified as Op Art. MC Escher experimented op art, although his work was not regarded as completely abstract.

How to Create Optical Illusion Art

All components used to produce a play of illusions, lines shapes and colors must be carefully selected for their combination to achieve the maximum effect expected ..

Here below are two methods primary production of art op. The first and perhaps the most commonly recognized is the use of lines and shapes, often black and white images that cause illusory. The second is the color, using the same model elements, but would provide additional effects on the viewer's eye and produces a different dimension.

There are three types of interaction of color:

  • Simultaneous Contrast – occurs when one area of color is surrounded by another color to create a difference in brightness, but when color area is larger and / or more intense than the other, the contrast is out of balance, which seems to go in one direction.
  • Successive contrast – It occurs when a color is immediately followed by another color, quickly change the focus of the spectator area of a color to another.
  • Reverse Contrast – occurs when the lightness of white or black with black, seem to spread into surrounding areas, causing colors seem to propagate in another.

Features Optical illusion art

Like all other genres or movements, art optical illusion has recognizable characteristics:

  • It fools the eye various ways. It may give viewers the feeling or illusion that the image they seek to actually moving and / or multi-dimensional. While a viewer is aware that the image is fixed, flat, another message is sent to the brain. It is non-representational, because it is geometrically based in nature.
  • It uses two techniques to create optical illusions: perspective and juxtaposition of colors, either chromatic or achromatic.
  • It requires positive action and negative space equal attention to produce an image that works properly.

In 1965 a major exhibition entitled "The Responsive Eye" really attracted the interest of public and popular movement. Accordingly, op art began to appear everywhere: in print advertising, television advertising, album covers, and even in the world fashion.
