Scope pop-open the lens cover?

One of the accessories that has moved from military to civilian use pop open the lens cover. Some are transparent and some are solid. I looked through my arms wide and see that I have primarily used the neoprene boot covers' for my area and some of Cup and elastic covers. None of them have pop-open lids and I'm thinking of putting in some future projects as my AR build. Have you used? What are the best? What is the advantage? What are the disadvantages?
