There is no better way to your neck out that coming up stabbing of a top 10 "anything" list. It's just worse when you talk about martial arts such as boxing, kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts. However, here is my top 10 list of heavyweight MMA fighters on the planet.

I must say that when I decided to write about my top 10 list, I do not think it would take too long. I believed that I could easily get 10 fighters that are head and shoulders above the pack. It was not easy. I am sure that there is a many people who disagree with are my items, but that's not the point, to start a discussion about who the best and who is there just for a salary?

This was the hardest position to choose, would actually have 4 or 5 guys tied for this position, but I had a choice and it was Mark "The Hammer "Coleman. Mark Coleman was one of MMA's pioneers, he founded Ground and Pound MMA as a valid skill. In fact, Mark is still one of the most intense fighters in the game. Unfortunately his submission skills (both offensive and defensive) have not improved enough to compete with the top fighters in the world.

Rashad Evans is my choice for fighter aircraft number 9. Rashad is still relatively new to the fight game and his natural athletic ability is as good as it gets. By the time Rashad will be much closer to the head of the pack to move, but for now, Rashad congratulations on your success and making it to the list!

The 8th best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world
Brandon "The Truth" Vera is definitely one of the most exciting heavyweight fighters in the UFC now and I tended to him in the top 5. However, he hit a more substantial fighter than Frank Mir. While I have the utmost respect for Frank Mir, it is clear to me that he is not the same fighter that prior to his accident. I think Brandon will be placed on the list next 5 years. He is a quality win away from that (to me).

The 7th best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world
Tim Silvia is the UFC's Heavyweight Champion. Why is it only ranked # 7, the only explanation I have is that I never personally 've met anyone like Tim Silvia fight look. He continues to win, but I'm not impressed by his performance. Sorry Tim, that's the way it is, you sit at number seven and if you do not start winning battles in a crowd pleasing way, I'm afraid you drop off the top 10 completely.

The 6th best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world
You might surprise you that I am a former K-1 fighter Mark Hunt in the top 10. It is surprising that I had over Tim Silvia, but I have my reasons. Last year Mark Hunt beat Mirko Cro Cop (by a very close decision) and he held strong with Fedor Emelianenko, even on the ground, in the most recent Pride event.

The 5th best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world
Josh Barnett is my choice for the 5th best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world. Josh says his style is "pro wrestling", but not wrong appearances as fake. Barnett combines overall toughness and strength to stand up much better and a stellar ground game. His fights are always exciting and often bloody. Josh is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion with victories in people like Randy Couture.

The 4th best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world
A year ago I would have Andrei Arlovski in the top 3, maybe even top 2, but losses to Tim Sylvia have me. I ask not Andrei's skills, he is an excellent stand up fighter with a strong ground game, I ask whether he has become scared after losses to Tim Silvia's by knockout. By the way, this is a fight he would have won, I think Silvia got lucky (but he seems to do that much). I look forward to what 2007 has in store for Andrei.

Who in their right mind would argue that Mirko Cro Cop belongs in the top 3 heavyweight fighters in the world? Now Mirko has joined the UFC it clear that Tim Silvia's days as champion are numbered. Mirko is the UFC heavyweight title in 2007, I would put money on that one. Mirko Strength is certainly his striking, including the best high kicks in the business. Victim of Cro Cop's left high kick is a list of MMA royalties … I wonder if he kick 6 foot 7 (Tim Silvia's height) can get.
