Lateral Thigh

The piriformis muscle is classified as one of six deep lateral rotators of the hip and is one of the two muscles that connect the legs to the spine. If you know your piriformis is likely considered more of an irritant than a rotator. Let's look closely at the functions of this muscle consternating.
The piriformis muscle originates from the front of the sacrum, the triangular bone wedged between the two bones of the hip, passes below the greater sciatic notch (an opening of the pelvis) and inserts on the top of the greater trochanter, a bony prominence on the outside of the femur (thigh) bone.
The piriformis are involved in a series of actions. Assists in the processing of your feet out, pointing to the leg of the body when the leg is flexed and extension of the hip joint. The piriformis muscle contraction the body moves in different directions depending on which bones do what. If the sacrum is stable leg, but it turns out that if the leg is fixed, the movement will come through the pelvis. It's an amazing thing when I think of how many muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons are involved in every move we make. Nothing happens in isolation.
Here is a way to feel the piriformis muscle at work. Stand with feet together, knees bent and glued back a bit. Place your hands on your butt and draw your knees apart slightly. Your piriformis should work beneath the large gluteal muscles.
Another essential function of the pyramid is a balance that seeks to create with the psoas major, the only other muscle connecting the legs to the spine. The piriformis is the only one of the deep hip muscles that attaches to the front of the sacrum. This takes you through of the sacroiliac joint and its pull on the sacrum in the functioning of the body back with / against the psoas pull 'on the front to bring balance to our upright posture delicate. Imagine the psoas pulling forward and down in the lumbar vertebrae in the front and piriformis sacrum drawing down in the back. This interaction with the psoas is one of the most important balancing acts of the body, and as I shall explain later, almost everyone is losing ground in an extraordinary ability to find ease within our body.
One of the key issues stand in relation to the piriformis is the position of the legs below the pelvis. The length and tone the muscles of the hip is determined by the ease of connecting bones femur at the hip. If the femoral head is free in the hip socket (acetabulum) of the legs fall to the ground with the ankle joint alignment with the center of the kneecap and the center of the hip joint. If you are standing as they are designed, we, the feet are parallel and separate just these deep hip muscles will be in their ideal resting position. Not that they are engaged, they were designed to be this long standing.
If you stand and walk with your feet always turned out, the length and tone the muscles of the hip is going to change. Always live in a state of laxity or short and not are naturally to its length. This is easy to see in people as the displacement of the leg in the hip socket is always manifest in the final turn of the feet. Anyone who walks with its legs outstretched has strange things in his hip muscles.
For the piriformis, this means that if the leg is open back, or thighs is pulled forward, you will not have the force of contraction and will not be exerting its pull on the sacrum in the back for balancing the opposing force of the psoas in the front. Obviously, if this is the position that always live in our piriform always loose or short.
You can get away with it during long time or even a lifetime if you're lucky. But if you know about the pain that can arise from problems with the piriformis muscle, there is little incentive to learn and understand this muscle. It is not difficult to make a few changes its position and easy to carry around the piriformis muscle to be a team player in the complex of the pelvis.
