Once again people are overweight in the firing line. Life insurance companies are increasing premiums up to 400% for raw fat. They always pay more for those who clearly over-eating, but during the last year or if the penalties were bad men and older are affected.

In moves to tighten belts, life insurance companies have lowered the limits they use to categorize peoples weight. This means that those who are simply overweight and have already qualified for a standard premium, are now punished with higher premiums and a premium increase over quickly overweight insurers believe that you are.

How can they classify you weight? They use what is called the body mass index. The typical insurance company considers a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 being normal. Over 25 class you as overweight. Top 30 and they think you are obese.

Enter your weight in pounds and multiply by 703.

Divide the result by your height measured in inches

Again divide the resulting number by your height in inches

The result is displayed your body mass index

When you take out life insurance, your weight and size are just two of many questions you need to answer.
