If you are in search of a great aerobic activity jogging may be just what you are looking for. Jogging strengthens both your mind and body. Anyone can begin jogging at any time regardless of your size or fitness level.

Before you start jogging, it is essential that you fit yourself with a good pair of running shoes. Running shoes should fit well and offer good support. Once you have your running shoes, you are ready to begin jogging. Remember that the beginning of any new exercise is the most difficult time. Stick with the jogging routine, no matter how difficult and just keep on trying.

It will help you get started on your jogging regime if you have a way to keep track of your progress. There are a number of different ways to keep track of your progress, each has its pros and cons. One of the easiest ways to measure your progress is by sticking to a jogging routine. Mark your progress along the way day-to-day. A treadmill is good for measuring how far you have gone and at what rate of speed you are jogging, but it can become boring and tedious.

Choose a location like a well-known road or a park on which to jog. It will provide visible landmarks that will help you measure distance and time, but it will not indicate speed. A stopwatch will come in handy to measure minutes that have passed while you jog. An iPod also comes in handy when jogging. It can help alleviate boredom. A jogging partner will also prove beneficial. A partner helps goad you along even on those days when you don’t feel like jogging. A partner also helps keep you accountable to your fitness plan.

Before you jog begin with a short warm up of walking and stretching. This should only take two to three minutes, just enough time to get your blood pumping. Your first goal as a jogger should be to accomplish a certain distance. Work on speed and time as you go. As a beginner you may run three and a half to four miles an hour. You may not be impressed with your speed, but don’t worry about it. You will improve with time. You will also improve as you learn to take your stride. Some joggers are more comfortable with a long stride, while others feel better with shorter, quicker strides.

It takes more mental willpower to keep jogging than physical energy. Your mind will try to tell you that you can’t do it. That is because it is a new activity to which your body and mind may be resistant. Capture your thoughts and remind yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to. Calm yourself and concentrate on correct breathing. Focus on self motivation and completing the jogging task you have laid out for yourself. Keep in mind, slow and steady always wins the race. You can do it. Jog as long as you can, then take a short walk to cool down. It is also advisable to stretch before you complete your exercise routine.
