Grip Hand

Many of my students gave the most important ingredient for a good swing – the grip pressure. This aspect of your golf technique is far to be a science, and each individual will need to experiment to find the right amount of pressure applied. In this article I will give you a no-fuss-no-frills methodology which countless students to help my pressure perfect nails in one session on the driving range.

Focusing on your grip is a mild understatement. Your hands are the only points of contact between your body and golf club. This means that all the momentum and torque your body must be produced efficiently and accurately transferred by your hands in the club all this translate into a good swing.

There is only 1 rule you must keep in mind:

Tighter you grip the golf club, the slower and less fluid will be your swing.

Contact Points

The question I get all the time on the grip and grip pressure is "where the fingers should I apply pressure with?". Firstly, the pressure should be applied to the fingers, not the whole finger.

FORGET all the Mumbo Jumbo confusion on the use "those fingers for the left hand and" fingers "to the right hand. For both hands, pressure points are the thumb, index and Pinky. The thumb and forefinger pinch the club, while the little finger is stabilized adhesion.

The drill exercises

Grip the club, applying pressure to the thumb, index and Pinky. Start with your grip as tightly as possible. Now go gradually from a scale of 1 to 6. Grip pressure 1 is your "Death Grip" and number 5 is the lightest pressure you must apply the club to prevent theft of your hands. Hitting some balls with six different pressures. Most of my students have found the number 3 and 4 is their perfect right.

Generally, that you vary the pressure of your grip tighter than light, you will see the change of model flying from a song to a hook. In other words, tightening the handle a curve to the right club, the tendency is to curve the ball from left to right. As you ease on pressure, you should see the way to fight rising and the lighter, the curve ball in the opposite direction. If all this seems a little bit complicated, it is not!
