Grid Hurricane

Imagine a life without the comforts we have come to expect all the modern infrastructure of today. Make every time the toilet flush, light, run the open air, clean the refrigerator, the teeth, drink a glass of water, cook on your stove top, listen to your iPod, shop at the store, you drive your car, take a shower, go mow your mom, the lawn, or just sit back with a cool glass of iced tea, you are on a complex structure and webbed supply and distribution networks that make possible all of these "little" amenities. What many of us do not consider – or even think about this — that the offer and sales network is very closely linked, which means that disturbances in one part of the network can send shock waves throughout the system on which tens of thousands of people and households across unpredictable ways.

As an example, consider a "simple" 7-day power outage (an increasingly common occurrence in the uncertain world of today). Once the grid is gone, so is the power for pumping water, sewage, electricity, street lights, store lights, house lighting, refrigeration, Heating, security systems, telecommunications, gas pumps, and much more. You will not be able to go the store to buy food, water, medicines and supplies so desperately need, because the shops will be closed, the shops that are somehow able to remain open, will be sold out within hours. They are not be able to drive a city untouched, because the gasoline pumps be out of operation – everything you whatsoever is in the tank. Their frozen food is spoil within a few hours, your water back on and they will not remove any fans to have the smell and the heat, or heating to warm from the biting cold. Ice disappear in the warmer latitudes. You will run out of food as soon as your pantry is empty, and the only water that you drink, or clean them with, what you had in bottles before the failure occurred. If you have an emergency, you will not be able to call 911, because the telecoms will probably down.

What will the next 7 days look like for you and your family? Here's how it is searched for one of the SurvivalOutpost.com 's customer

"We had no idea how the blackout would affect us too. We planned ahead, but there are so many things that you do not think about, and water runs out so quickly. We had to the lines waiting for water. Who would have thought that a toilet takes nearly three gallons to fill, just to flush! People here would be a lot of money for a battery operated paid fan – we were miserable! "- Renee Sutherland, Hurricane Gustav Survivor

If you are not adequately prepared, it is likely that your weekend are nervous about spending a long line of bad-tempered and seemingly hostile strangers, as you (all wait on government aide that can take days to reach). If it sounds bad, then you now know what they have gone through millions of unprepared people (or in some cases) – not after a major disaster to.

Peace of mind in these uncertain times comes through adequate preparedness – a balance between personal responsibility to prepare for likely natural and man-made disasters, an acknowledgment that it could actually happen to you and your family, and the understanding that there is a safety net as out there willing to help … wait but one that you be willing to have. It's the waiting that you can hurt:

"I live in northwest Pennsylvania. Domestic United States. Who would have ever thought that I will be for one week of power outage to a hurricane that made landfall in Texas prepared! Ike shot up the country, we met with 80 mph wind and made us completely unprepared. There was a run on Wal-Mart, and I had to rely on my neighbors to help me through the disturbance. A neighbor had a generator, and he went from house to house is limited, each of us one hours of power to cool our food and water, which we had left. "Alita Gail – Hurricane Ike Survivor

The survival into question today's complex and increasingly unpredictable and dangerous world is simple: Given the potential dangers that are likely to concern you (eg an economic collapse much disturbed that our supply chain and support networks, or a Katrina-scale natural disaster or social unrest, etc.) You have the necessary supplies on hand to make it through the waiting time to … to stay at home quietly in the comfort and company of your family and your loved ones? Or They are scratching impatiently in a long line of foreigners, hoping to make it to the front before they run out deliveries?

The choice and decision is up to you … Never forget that when the time to act for you, the time to prepare is gone.

Stay safe. Stay informed. Be ready.
