No one would ever question that a break up is a difficult and painful thing. When I was trying to get my ex back I thought I was going to fall apart. But that was before I discovered that there are some strategies that can actually help people deal with a break up. These strategies sometimes go against a person’s natural instincts but they are effective.

Sadly, many people find frustration when trying to reconcile with the one they love when their efforts meet with no success. And it is not at all uncommon for people to actually make the situation worse. Sound familiar? Sometimes it seems like the harder we try, the more difficult we make things. And unfortunately for us, many of the self-help books are just nothing more than total nonsense.

When I was trying to get my ex back I made a lot of mistakes. If you are in the middle of trying to get back together with someone you probably know what I’m talking about. It’s easy to get trapped in all kinds of emotional baggage and act out of anger and resentment. Or, our bruised egos blind us to the reality of the situation. These things are very common experiences after a break up.

I made a lot of mistakes when I was trying to get my ex back. So I know. You’re not alone. One of the first things I learned is that you need to take a hard look at yourself. You have to try and put aside the hurt feelings, the bruised ego, and the separation anxiety and get a handle on what you really want. With all emotions aside, do you really want to get back with your ex? Or is it just about winning? If you decide that you do, then you have to take another look at yourself and focus on the things you may have done to contribute to your relationship problems.

This is not an easy thing to do. In fact, it may be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do, but it is crucial and necessary for a real reconciliation. Be as objective and honest with yourself as you possibly can. After you have done this, if you want to move forward in your attempts to reconcile, then you must begin to formulate a plan. Before you act, you need to decide on effective strategies so that you don’t fall into the trap of reacting, like you probably have been doing.

In the vast majority of cases emotions can run high and that is exactly what we want to avoid. Crying, begging, pleading, getting angry and becoming resentful are behaviors that are only going to drive them away. That is why you are going to want to lay low for the first few weeks. That means no contact whatsoever until you’re sure you have a better handle on your emotions.

This also has another unintended consequence that will very much work to your advantage. You see, we human beings are funny creatures and far too many times we don’t appreciate what we have until we have lost it. By putting some distance between yourself and the one you love you will psychologically trigger in them feelings of separation and they won’t even know why.

This doesn’t mean that you completely ignore them or go out of your way to avoid them. If you still live with them or should happen to bump into them, of course, be polite and cordial. What you are going to do is show them that you are in fact strong and not needy and that is very attractive indeed.
