Some martial artists believe that if you really want to develop skills, you have to practice from a bad position. You create situations where you can not answer your best, ready-for-itself, the action moves from the defense and strategies.

You and I know it's beneficial to practice "off balance" at times.

In the past I have written articles who defend yourself against a boxer shooting fast to your waist, you probably felt what it was like to be able to save space between you and the enemy tries to climb all over you and force you to return.

I was also responding after you the opponent threw the first couple of punches.

These are all examples of your practice to deal with surprise attacks and to be taken unawares.

Prepared in self-defense emergency
I give you the ability to be always ready for any emergency self-defense, but the truth is that one day you may be caught unawares. Hey, it could happen.

For those of you who think you'll be able to win after striking distance and / or walk a few times, I have news for you – it's not as easy to get away with it is sometimes portrayed on television. If someone is even more you, it can be overwhelming – difficult to find your bearings.

Make sure you practice specifically for these occasions.

I want you to practices respond when someone is clinching. Also perform a quick burst of infighting punches, boxing style. Finally, the practice where your reply comes after being hit twice in the midsection (security, please).

Get started practicing for Bad Situations
There are many ways to gain control of a bad situation. Here's a hint for get you started:

For now, think about checking above the elbow. What I mean … can you get outside the upper arm and push / control your opponent's ability to refocus on you, keep punching, or even kick down?

Note: This last paragraph sounds like a mouthful. In other words, you can take control by seizing and putting pressure on his arm?

Try to get control of the arm. In future articles we'll talk about other strategies.

"These techniques are, indeed, powerful tools and should be practiced carefully with a partner. They are intended for close, confrontational situations, which are usually the real-life situations where defense is needed. Nothing fancy here. Just straightforward techniques that work. I've used some of them before to stop more escalated fight situations, so I know they work. Alain Burrese presents t...
