Flip Flops

Flip flopping refers to changing ones position on an issue. The general public likes politicians who flip-flop on their positions, partly because they assume that it is dishonest done solely for political reasons, partly because they simply like to know what is a candidate for public office for. We, the voter must ask whether the left politician has any true faith or integrity.

The problem is that the flip flopping label is applied indiscriminately. If a Candidate for some reason changed his mind, it is considered a lack of integrity and consistency. But it's always bad when politicians change their positions on the issues? Certainly not. In fact, presidential candidate John McCain just a statement that it was worse than even a disingenuous flip-flop on a position.

"I've never changed one of my position," he says proudly in an interview. I think that was to distinguish himself from others candidates, their opinions changed, but proud for what a terrible thing to be! After several decades on the political stage, he praises himself, because he did not, his opinion on all aspects Change learned? Obviously, he is convinced that he figured out the whole truth in the seventies.

Think about this. Think of all of your comments Decades back. Do you agree with all of them yet? Mentally healthy people grow and mature. Change in his views and opinions by, what is learned, experienced and is a part of it. Sure, some consistency in which ideas and opinions is normal in a rational man, at least in the short term. But never changing one's mind with a fair Security indicates a closed mind and / or the willingness to learn.

Think of it as a matter of probabilities. It is not too likely that it learned nothing new or experienced in thirty years that would require a person to influence the thinking, right? But even if they are true in the case of McCain, to his obvious pride remain the same as a problem. When he discovered something new to it should change a position? In order not to keep his "to-flip-flop" status, it will only ignore?

By the way, is not that an attack on McCain. In fact, early in his career, he was one of the most honest man in Washington. Also someone who read his experience, for five years in a Vietnamese prison being tortured – and then forgive his captors – not only knows how brave he was, But how smart and open-minded, he was as good. But he is also the one who has made it a point of pride, his positions are not changed.

I Changed My Mind!

If there is a better policy or an idea that more in line with the truth, a person, including a politician is, they should choose, right? One's opinions and positions should change once in a while when we are capable of learning. Unfortunately, you can see the changing positions during the election period, we are not honest re-evaluation in general, but politically calculated moves.

Change In the case of honest, but it is a scenario that I would like to see. Some honest politician (I'm feeling optimistic) is the flip flopping to have a topic. He had a good and honest reasons for the change to defend a good reason, then, rather than in the usual fashion shows with a tortured logic to alter how his position has not yet really, he says the following:

"It is true that I've changed my attitude. I looked at the problem, and I see that there is a better way. Furthermore, I promise to always be my position to change if this is the case. I do not promise to my opinion and my stubborn pride, or items for political points record, when I see a position that is better for the country or an opinion that is more closely to the facts. "

It will not happen in the foreseeable future, of course. Such a speech would require an honest politician, and who is brave – not the expected combination of our politicians. But maybe the political climate will evolve, just enough so that a few honest flop "flip" to be acceptable to the voters.
