Digital Step
Digital Step

The first step of editing a digital photo is to determine what is the purpose of this plan will be. If the image is to be presented on the Web / Internet, we approach a certain way, and if the goal is to print the image, we approach this differently.

Modification an image for the Web:

The first thing I do with any image I put on the web is to adjust color so we have some precision. In Photoshop, with the image already open, click on:

Picture

Adjustments

Auto Color

or Shift + Ctrl + B

This will adjust the image to a color combination that Adobe thinks is correct based on data collected when the image was created. Now, sometimes these changes are large, and is much better images quality. On other occasions, it makes the image look unrealistic. On those occasions, just click the History tab in th pallet and remove the item called "Auto Color". This will reset the image to what it was like before adjustment has been made. If the color appears deranged, try using the following procedure to fine tune. Click on:

Picture

Adjustments

Color Balance

or CTRL – B

When the control box opens, move the cursor until a reasonable representation of color is found. It is quite obvious that when you move the lift of some changes color very significant happened. With a little practice, you learn to make changes in all areas: the shadows, midtones and highlights, and the how the sliders affect each of these.

Once you have all the color that is pleasing to the eye, the next step I make overall saturation. This makes the colors richer and seemingly more promising.

To perform a saturation of the image, click on:

Picture

Adjustments

Hue / Saturation

or CTRL + U

To make a base saturation, move the cursor center (marked: saturation) to the right until you see the box above to read 20. Nothing more than that, and the image can "pixelate." Of course, you can experiment with the other sliders and further refine the image, but I found a setting generic cursor 20 on the saturation is usually sufficient for basic edits.

Once you are satisfied with the saturation and hue of the image, the next step will help you sharpen your images so they appear to be more clear. Photoshop is a built in tool called "Mask blur, and in short, it cleans up the image so it appears to be more clear. To use the unsharp mask, click on:

Filter

Sharpness

Sharpening Mask

When the dialog appears, where it can get a little tricky. If you sharpen the image too much, she gets a pixeled fact that you love. If yo do not sharpen it enough, the image always seems be the first. Generally, I make my levels of sharpness depends on image size. Most full-size images are nowadays in the 3000 x 2000 pixels wide. Based on an image of these dimensions, the parameters I sue for clarity are basic:

Amount: 100%

Radius: 4.0 pixels

Threshold: 4 levels

If the image is larger than that, you can increase the radius of 5 or more and if the picture is a little smaller, decrease the radius of 3 or more.

When you see a before and after the image with the adjustments that we just did, you'll be amazed!

Now for the final steps:

Remember when we need to know what is the purpose of amending has been done? The time is ripe to apply this information. We are going to crop the image based on what our requirements.

If you produce an image URL, the tool palette, click the crop tool or simply click on the letter C on your keyboard. With the crop tool selected, look at the top of the screen and you will see some open dialog boxes. The first dialog will WIDTH, followed by height and again followed by a resolution.

Type the desired width of the image, the desired height of the image, and finally to Web usage, type in 72 and click on the tab beside it that says "pixels per inch. We want to ensure that we set our resolution to normal parameters.

Now, with the mouse, select the image area you want to crop. You will see that when you drag any corner of the selection, it will scale up or down in size you've selected. You can also move the crop area selected by clicking anywhere inside the selected area and dragging with mouse. Once you have defined the way you want, press ENTER on your keyboard and your image will be cropped as you selected. Save a copy, and is now ready for web use.

To set the image for printing, follow steps exactly the same, except during the establishment of the culture, set the resolution to tab 300. Most commercial printers picture on the resolution of basic printing. Make appropriate culture, save a copy, and now you're set to print.

Good luck, and Happy editing!
