Cup Boxing

I first heard this remark in an interview with Bruce Lee. Later, I learned more about this concept in the book Joe Hyams, "Zen and the martial arts. "The quotation is from a Bruce Lee story concerns Mr. Hyams, where a teacher tried to point to a visiting artist arrogant martial. The martial artist apparently came to learn from the master, but simply wanted to prate their own ideas. In history, the teacher begins to fill the visitor's cup with tea, but when it is full, the master continues to pour and the tea is exhausted. When the visitor points out, the master replied: "If you empty your cup, you can not get more tea. The basic concept is that if you are full of your own ideas, there is no room for new ones.
Bruce Lee was not only a warlord, he was also a master of learning from others. He was constantly emptying his cup and taking new ideas. In its brief existence, he continued to learn from others, forcing him to change philosophies many times, and establish martial arts based on the constant renewal of ideas.
As martial artists, we can continue to learn Sample of Bruce Lee. This does not mean that we all need to create new styles as Master Lee has done, but we can all become familiar with other styles to fill gaps in our training. As artists, we must try to learn martial everything we can from others. Too martial artists prefer to pretend that they already know everything and wallow in their own ignorance by admitting that there may be risk more to learn.
This arrogant approach leads to a tendency to destroy or reject ideas or concepts that we do not understand instead of taking any what we can from him. This trend comes from insecurity and defensive. Nobody likes to know they may be wrong, but to continue learn, we must seize this chance or risk stagnation. And when we find we were wrong about something, we should rejoice in its discovery because it's one more thing, we are now close to get right? The idea that a single person or a system could be perfect and know everything is ludicrious. Anyone who knows something out there, we do not. Each system has something there that they are better our system. Once again, it's a good thing. Think about the learning potential!
The next time you're facing an idea that makes you angry or uncomfortable, do not immediately dismiss or attack. Take a moment to assess whether it is really a bad idea or whether it merely challenge your own preconceptions. Even after evaluating objectively an idea and you still disagree, there is something to gain. The only exercise will help you strengthen your own knowledge and concepts. In addition, some good ideas are considered absolutely baseless, and careful evaluation in May reveal a gem of knowledge hidden in a concept that may later have gone astray. Whatever the value of had the idea can now be treated as your own ideas, and the portions that you have examined and rejected may now be easily rejected without fear of missing something important. Despite this, you must always be ready to reassess a concept previously rejected. It may later prove that there was nothing wrong with the concept, but you were not yet ready to accept it.
In the film Broadcast News, Holly Hunter domineering character was confronted by a colleague who asked him, "it must be wonderful knowing that you always have reason? To which she replied: "No, it's terrible." That would be terrible. Knowing, or at least think, there was nothing to learn someone else. So why take the risk of artificially creating this nightmare, even if it is in one area of your life? "I thought I was wrong once, but it turns out I was wrong. "Remember, empty your cup, or you can not have more tea!
