What are some reasons why a man would wear a lace-up ankle brace all the time?

There is a guy who lives on my floor that bears only one of those sports braces that laces and ties to the 24 / 7 since school started. He does not exercise and has said nothing about the injury. Are there medical reasons he would have to be wear or is it just for attention?

He can try to get attention, but probably not. Some people just need support due to weak ankles, or Past damage (ie mulitple sprains or fractures) or a skeleton / muscle deformity or something. not exercise because he does not mean anything. My guess is past damage, just as fracture. (I broke my wrist brace and I must bear for 4-6 weeks after the cast.
