What exactly are allergies? Oh, we all know how allergies affect us. Itching, sneezing, watery eyes, runny nose and other Allergy symptoms often send us running for the Sudafed. But what causes allergies?

Allergies are the result of the body's immune system. What happens is the immune system targets a harmless substance, such as pollen and attack, as is a malicious virus. A very sensitive immune system can actually harm the body in the body it is thought that is protected when he goes overboard.

Most doctors believe that allergies are caused by a protein in the allergen. The protein that the person is allergic to causes white blood cells in the body to act as if the allergen is invading the body and can switch to attack. Histamines cause the blood pressure drops and blood vessels to dilate. These symptoms cause spaces fill with liquid, causing all the classic symptoms of allergy.

What is interesting is that even in our society highly developed, we do not fully understand the process of allergies. Once someone starts to show signs of an allergy to a substance particular, they often have allergies to substances similar. Another interesting thing about allergies is that they can build. Sometimes a person may have a mild reaction to a substance and later they are still stronger symptoms. A severe reaction to an allergen is called anaphylactic shock, a condition where the body begins to stop, after breaking out in hives and swelling. If you are having allergic reaction accompanied by swelling or hives, go to the hospital immediately. Anaphylactic shock can cause death, in affecting the brain, kidneys or brain causing swelling shut. To treat anaphylactic shock, you will need an injection of epinephrine, but it must be given quickly, before the body has a chance to have serious damage.

If you think your child might be prone to allergies, you can take your child for testing. The most frequently used to test for allergies is through a test of zero. A scratch test is where a doctor uses a small piece of an allergen to a scratch on the arm or back, then watches for the swelling. This Not often used in small children, however, because it can actually trigger a reaction. For small children, parents should simply monitor for signs of allergies and talk to the doctor if they have concerns.
