Black Mat

Playing music and studying the guitar is not competition that some teachers and institutions make it out to be. Some people feel as if they must compare their gifts, the gifts of others and decide that their donations should be equal to or greater than the gifts of others and any other idea is unacceptable. These people came to be obsessed with what others are doing and keep with them rather than focusing on music that is in them and the joy of creation that brings.

A comparison can be made to the world of martial arts. The thinking is really only relevant if you look at the real beginning of martial arts. The word Sensei is widely regarded as meaning "master" but sensei means "one who has preceded." Even the definition is easier to digest and more inviting. Musicians get very caught up in ego and rank. As if a teacher gives one the right of ego or superiority, as if it was earned. As a student, I'll be much more open to learning of "one who has gone before" that I will learn from a "teacher". Teacher means a rank of superiority with work to …. on you. "One who has preceded" sounds like someone who knows from experience and wants to help you acquire the knowledge he has acquired. I'd rather learn from someone who has a "one that preceded it" attitude.

Think of yourself as a beginner or a belt of "white" in martial arts circles. Martial artists learn their craft in a place called a dojo "which means" place of the track. " The Zen attitude is much more inviting from my point of view. "The place of the road" is where I want to learn. Martial Arts Zen philosophy has much to say in his favor by the way of enjoying the process and the final result.

The black belt has started as a white belt. It was not officially promoted as traditionally in most dojos today. His belt was white gradually changed over time as it has nuances in sweat, thrown on the carpet (or hardwood floor), pumps and crunches. The first black belt does account for his achievements hoping they add little to a promotion, he liked the process, has shown every day and perfected his art. The black belt is a true result of refining his art. Often, people get the "Are We There Yet" because they are feeling like the idea of where could be found, but they can not live in the moment. Being obsessed with the destination must take be concentrated on where it should be – on what you do today. When you love music and you love playing the guitar, you enjoy process. it does not cause you stress or impatience. Like what is now and you can enjoy even when you take your practice. Even a black belt in style must wear a white belt, he plans to start a new style.

Then after we get a true level of control his art, he must adopt the mindset of a beginner again, to continue to grow. Anyone who loves the process, also loves the building and growth inherent in the pursuit of excellence. Does this excellence is the end of the line? I want my process to stay fresh, I want all these new ideas that I used to get when I was a white belt.

It may be harder to find materials, new fees, but it can also challenge your creativity. There is always more. Have you ever been frustrated by someone who comes up with an idea that you wish you came with yourself. That way you realize that you thought you did when you were not.

To take on the mindset of a beginner in Zen is called Circles "carrying an empty cup." When we make a cup empty, we are willing and ready to fill the cup and we leave all preconceptions behind us, we can again learn that the beginner learns.

Rumble Fish [VHS] Rumble Fish [VHS]

The second of Francis Ford Coppola's films based on the popular juvenile novels of S.E. Hinton (the first being The Outsiders), Rumble Fish split critics into opposite camps: those who admired the film for its heavily stylized indulgence, and those who hated it for the very same reason. Whatever the response, it's clearly the work of a maverick director who isn't afraid to push the limits of his i...

American History X American History X
$3.25

Perhaps the highest compliment you can pay to Edward Norton is that his Oscar-nominated performance in American History X nearly convinces you that there is a shred of logic in the tenets of white supremacy. If that statement doesn't horrify you, it should; Norton is so fully immersed in his role as a neo-Nazi skinhead that his character's eloquent defense of racism is disturbingly persuasive--at ...
Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series
$25.54

Sometimes, change is good, as evidenced by Matt Smith's assumption of the mantle of Britain's beloved science-fiction hero, Doctor Who, in this stellar series. Replacing David Tennant, who was arguably the most popular incarnation of the Time Lord since Tom Baker, was an unenviable task for any actor. But relative newcomer Smith--the youngest performer to play the Doctor--makes the role his own wi...
