Let's get things in order, I say that Matt Serra has no chance against Georges St-Pierre in their fight UFC welterweight championship April 7, 2007 in Houston Texas. What I am saying is that Matt "The Terror" Serra will be a future champion in the UFC Lightweight category.

The UFC does not another fighter like Matt Serra. Serra is a brilliant fighter, a fighter with a 7-4 MMA record, 5-4 in the UFC. Huh? How can I call a warrior a record like that brilliant? As is often the case in combat sports, Matt Serra is not defined as a fighter by his victories, but its losses and loss of Matt Serra is awesome!

First Loss Matt Serra comes in May 2001 to none other than Shonie Carter. Matt Serra was dominating this fight and ten seconds of winning when Shonie caught Matt with an impressive circular grip. This fist back became the staple of every highlight reel Knockout MMA since. Matt has since avenged his loss to Shonie, but as it was part of the series Ultimate Fighter reality and only a two-round fight, victory does not appear on his official record.

BJ Penn MMA was the next wizard to defeat Matt Serra. We all know that BJ Penn. He is the man rubber, he is incredibly talented and flexible. BJ Penn may very well be the most natural talent of the fighter in MMA. That said, Matt Serra has lost a decision very close to BJ Penn. I think a rematch between these two fighters should be in order. Maybe it will happen at welterweight, or more precisely Back the light where I think these two guys are at their best.

Loss Matt Serra next is a little suspect. He lost a decision to Din Thomas. Encore once, I think Din Thomas is a good fighter, but I'm not sure why Matt Serra could not finish it. It is in the books as a victory Din Thomas, but if these two fought again today, I am sure that Matt Serra would win.

Karo Parisyan also the decision by Matt Serra, the loss coming in June 2005. Karo is an excellent Judo / BJJ / Ground Combat, so it is not surprising that this battle was won at a decision. Basically two guys force offset each other.

That's four losses, but all four are well known accomplished fighters. Also, all four fighters are still in the mix, moving their way back into contention for the belts and light welterweight.

Georges St-Pierre is standing in the way Matt Serra taking the UFC welterweight title April 7. I do not think anything short of a wound during the fight prevented Georges to win this fight. Full apologies to Matt if he thinks I am disrespectful to his qualities, that's not it, it's just that I think George is obviously too big and too good a striker for Matt to be effective. George has an excellent defense and get a good ground and pound, I think will win this fight, hopefully It's a good one though.

Matt Serra belongs to the light. This is his natural weight class and that would do very well. I think Matt has current lightweight champion Sean Sherk beat both technical ground (JJB) and striking. The only place Sherk has an advantage is fighting skills, but Serra is very dangerous to his back. I think after Matt Serra gets this fight with Georges St-Pierre-en, he will return to Rule of the Light Division, and we hope to set up a rematch with BJ Penn.
