Bag Tote

Looking for a very useful project sewing simple, fast and easy to sew? Here's how to sew a tote bag of groceries in cloth.

Helping the Environment in several sewing bags for yourself or give as gifts. Children can use them for bags of toys when they go home to grandma. They are totes Travel great, too.

You'll love cloth grocery bags. Use them for all sorts of things besides carrying out groceries.

Use some of your stock and make some today! Give to your favorite charity. They love them!

Fabric:

Use whatever fabric you want to use. Try cottons, upholstery fabrics, from faux suede, leather, canvas, denim, etc. You may prefer to use washable fabrics so you can easily wash your bags.

1-1/4 yards of fabric 45 inches wide will be two (2) bags.

Preshrink and straighten the fabric.

Cutting Instructions:

Cut a panel 19-1/2 inches wide by 41 inches long for each bag.

Cut (preferably on grain length) two (2) innings per bag 4 inches wide by 17 inches long. It is easier to cut and sew a long strip 4 inches by 34 inches and cut in half.

Sewing Instructions:

Fold the bag panel in half and press a crease in the bottom.

HEM Press a 1 inch in the top of the bag.

Fold and press down again make a double hem.

Repeat for front and rear bag.

Let it cool on your ironing board, then open the back hem.

NOTE: If you are applying pockets, appliques, embroideries, etc., for the bag, do it now before sewing the side seams.

Make sure hems are open and Stitch 1 / 2 inch side seams to the bag. (serge or sew).

Cut the seam allowance to 1 / 4 inch and zigzag to finish edges.

Press seams.

Turn the hem Stitch and double up.

Press.

While pressing the hem, to determine the center and the center back of the bag by folding so that Side seams are aligned and press a crease of light above the bag. This will help you put the handles.

Make The Straps

Press on a piece of 4 inch wide strap in half to create a crease.

Open out and bring back the cut edges to the center on the fold down.

Press.

Now fold on the crease of origin and press again.

The cut edges are sealed.

Edgestitch both sides the long strap 34 inches long.

Cut in half to 17 inches to two strap handles.

Zigzag raw edges.

Mark and attach the strap handles

In bag hem, measure both sides of the front center and back center of the bag around 1-3/4 inches and make a mark. This allows 3-1/2 inches between the handles.

Place the inside edge of the handle to align that mark the edge handle zigzag with the bottom hem of the bag. Pin in place.

Stitch 1 inch square to attach the handles to the bag.

Box The bottom of the bag

At the lodge the bottom of the bag, turn it upside down.

Center a side seam above the fold at the bottom bag forming a triangle.

With the envelope bottom bag on top, focusing on the side seam, measure from the point 3-1/2 inches and mark.

Fold the triangle aligning the low point of the fold bag and press triangle.

Open the rear triangle in place and sew on the line bent press (base of the triangle).

Repeat operation to the other side. This will form an area of 7 inches in the bottom of the bag.

You can leave these triangles folded in the bottom of the bag or you may cut and finish edges with stitches or zigzag Serged.

The bottom support (not really necessary)

Furthermore, you may want to cover a piece of cardboard with your fabric to lay in the bag for better support. This can be removed to launder the bag.

Cut cardboard 7 inches wide x 11-1/2 inches long.

Cut the fabric a little larger.

/ Fuse glue fabric to the cardboard.

Tip: Double bag when the load is extra heavy. Make it double layer or simply place a bag in the other when needed.

Enjoy your fabric Shopping Bag

Use it to tote what you want when you want.

Make the handle longer if you want to wear the bag on his shoulder.

Add your Special versions, wall, monogram, embroidery, painting, etc. to make a single bag.

Add interior pockets in different sizes and take your keys, wallet, etc.

You are the designer. Sew your own designer shopping tote bags.
