Arts Book

Being the author of several books on martial arts and fighting, I am always looking for books of exceptional quality for add to my library. If I have a book in my library, it is definitely an owner value. One such book is Peyton Quinn 'Guide one bouncer to Barroom Brawling.

The most important thing to remember when you read this, or any book dealing with techniques of self-defense is that the principles behind the technique is much more important than the technology itself. Once again, Peyton does a great job of this, and you'd better sit down down and read this book from cover to cover several times to grasp what he is trying to teach you.

So without further ado, let's get started.

1. The Ambush: Awareness and Prevention

One of the important points the author tries to move around you in this section is that the fighting has serious medical and legal consequences and should be avoided whenever possible. Remember, nothing is easy to do, unless you are first willing to do. Also, learn to avoid a potential conflict is without doubt the most important "technical" you can learn. It is extremely important and should be considered your first line of defense.

2. The Reality of Fighting

Some points of interest that are discussed in this section.

a. The best assets punching it dupes uses are: confidence, experience, skill and tactics.

b. Some characteristics of very real "Real Combat ", such as real battles are actually very sloppy compared to those described in movies, most fights only last a few seconds Most fights are decided by punches to the head, most real fights involve some form of grappling, kicking (especially above the waist) is not very effective in a real fight.

Now, I must admit I'm not too fond of such statements the latter seems to strike the effectiveness of kicks in a real fight. For my part, have extensive training in kicking and used successfully many times in a real fight. "However, that said, I readily concede that point, the author tries to convey here is actually a very good solution. Most people just do not know how to give a shot well early, but they have no idea how putting them into practice in a fight "real."

c. Author's comments on the martial arts from a fight, Peyton, to my opinion, is one of the most realistic self-defense authors out there today, simply because it adopts a realistic approach and practical effectiveness of traditional martial arts when it comes to the issue of self defense. Unlike other authors out there which seems to strike any kind of formal martial art, there, Peyton admits there importance and value not only in self – defense but also in all other aspects of your life. He does really good food for thought in this section and it was a real pleasure to read.

3. The Toolbox

This section begins with some good advice: "It is important to learn how to avoid to be hit effectively, but to learn to strike effectively. "

The author then describes several different hand strikes and how to execute them. This section is really good and offers some very practical advice and useful.

I particularly enjoyed poignant tale the author of a sparring session he had with the Tae Kwon Do black belt 4th degree. This is a fun and interesting history, and you can learn many things, if you read between the lines. The author then concludes this section with some more discussion at hand, elbow, and knee strikes.

4. Principles of Defense

The single most remarkable part of the opinion that the author has in this book is simply this: "The principles and concepts behind the techniques are more important than the techniques themselves, or something to that effect. It is something I have said for at least 20 years since I started teaching. Several principles of blocking and strike are discussed in this section.

5. Mobility, the opposite position, and the subtleties of Staying Out of Jail

This section covers much ground on on issues of good position, the use of footwork and keeping and maintaining the proper distance between you and your opponent.

6. Grappling, launch, and escapes

This section covers a lot of very good information on the subject of catch and throw. I really appreciated the information in this section and alone worth the price of this book.

7. Selection TIMELY Martial Art for your personal study

What I found to be one of the best sections throughout the book. Here the author takes a fairly honest look well-informed different martial arts and the many factors to consider when trying to decide where to study.

Overall I found the book to be outstanding for Peyton and I am proud to have in my personal library. I found the approach to Peyton about refreshing and honest and that I hold in high esteem personally.

I highly recommend you buy this book and not only read the words Peyton wrote, but perhaps more importantly those that were written between the lines printed.

Shawn Kovacich has been practicing the martial arts for over 25 years and currently holds the rank of 4th degree (Yodan) black belt in both Karate and Tae Kwon Do. Shawn is the author of the highly acclaimed Achieving Kicking Excellence series

Review for A Fistful of Dollars:A Fistful of Dollars launched the spaghetti Western and catapulted Clint Eastwood to stardom. Based on Akira Kurosawa's 1961 samurai picture Yojimbo, it scored a resounding success (in Italy in 1964 and the U.S. in 1967), as did its sequels, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The advertising campaign promoted Eastwood's character--laconic, am...
