All About the Causes of Pelvic Pain

by Ernest Moore

A few of the organs that are located in this region include the muscles and skins covering the left side of the abdominal wall, the lower end of the left kidney, nerves on the left abdomen, the left ureter, part of large blood vessels like the aorta and its branches, part of the descending large bowel, the left ovary and tube, the sigmoid colon, and part of the urinary bladder.Nonetheless, pelvic pain among women is still a very mysterious condition among experts today and sometimes they cannot find out its root cause. Here are several of the most common causes of pelvic pain among women and the symptoms come with them.Lower left pelvic pain is a symptom of a disease that is more frequently felt by the elderly and women. The lower left pelvic region has a lot of body organs that is possibly the culprit of the pain.

It is caused by a variety of factors such as swallowed air, gas produced by bacteria from fermentation of indigestible food, a by-product gas from the reaction of acid and alkaline, and gas released from the blood into the gut. These conditions include primary dysmenorrhea, cervical stenosis, vulvodynia, pelvic infection, endemetriosis, pelvic congestion syndrome, pelvic joint instability, uterine fibroids, and adenomyosis.

Primary dysmenorrhea is experienced by about more than 50% of women during menstruation due to the release of prostaglandins, making the uterus contract.Vullvodinia meanwhile is characterized by pain experienced in the vulva that persists up to three mnoths. In endemetriosis, the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus, causing great pelvic pain during menstruation or sex.Another one of the causes of pelvic pain among women is scar tissue that is formed in the pelvic area. This may be a result of pelvic infection or after a pelvic surgery.

The last example of a condition that may cause lower left pelvic pain is transverse colon volvulus. For instance, irritable bowel syndrome, a chronic condition, includes pelvic pain as one of its symptoms. Another example is interstitial cystitis which is a chronic bladder condition that is characterized by an inflamed or irritated bladder wall. Bothe of these conditions have mysterious causes and that is why a lot of doctors find it difficult to treat this kind of pelvic pain.

This is the condition wherein a part of the large intestine called the transverse colon twists on itself. This condition may result in to intestinal obstruction hence it is deadly. While it is currently unclear why this happens, it seems that psychological trauma has a huge role in this. Moreover, even after patients get treatment for the underlying cause of the pelvic pain, there are still instances when the affected nerves keep on sending pain signals. This condition is called neuropathic pain and it is also one of the main reasons why pelvic pain is so hard to treat.
