Advancements Through Cutting Edge Cancer Research

by Guadalupe Mcclure

Malignant disease continues to claim 3,400 new victims each day and kills 1,500 patients daily just in the U. S. Cutting edge cancer research aims to put a dent in these dire statistics with teams of specialized physicians, scientists, clinicians, and staff whose sole objective is aimed at preventive strategies, intervention through timely diagnostic tools and the application of safe, effective, innovative treatment plans. These teams are working today to obliterate cancer through revolutionary developments via the most technologically advanced information used to publish hypotheses to produce the cure.

Medical centers across the globe approach research with the background basics of biological functions, genetics and the physiology of abnormal cell growth. Today a new direction of learning is concentrating on epigenetic changes. Cutting edge cancer research goals are determining the full scope of epigenetic alterations that happen in cancers, to explore the causes of changes at cell level and effectively use these observations to discover new epigenetic based therapies.

The correlation between inflammatory process and various malignancies is now a subject of exploration in oncology. Another consideration is a theory that the immune system is negatively impacted by yeast and may allow the proliferation of cancerous cells to infiltrate and gain a foothold in those patients that develop cancer. Trials are being conducted to understand the processes that turn on the mechanism that allows fast growing malignancies. There is hope in treatments with stem cells that could carry the potential to effectively turn off the rampant, abnormal cell growth at the molecular level.

Clinical analysis serves to unravel the pathology of disease, the basic questions as to why, what, when in the development of malignancies, in addition to the changes that occur in the body as a result of the disease process. Today, scientists can evaluate specific aspects of malignancies through testing for raised levels of tumor-induced, altered genetic byproduct in tissue samples.

Nanotechnology is an advanced technology used as a mechanism of delivery. Cutting edge cancer research has developed the process for microscopic sized particles to be utilized as a delivery methodology in chemotherapy treatments and tests that require placement of chemicals for visualizing abnormal cells, tumors and areas of inflammation in oncology patients.

Clinical trials serve as invaluable tools for researchers. Set up in an environment conducive to controlled studies in medical facilities across the world, clinical trials are designed for the purpose of developing new procedures for early diagnostics, investigating and testing new drugs and seeking new treatments for critically ill patients.

Until scientists find the cure, cutting edge cancer research remains the source of hope for oncology patients. The research process will continue to use the best minds and technology to provide patients with therapies that enable productive, enjoyable lives until scientists realize their ultimate goal in discovery of a cure. The National Cancer Institute is the source of funding these projects through grants and donations to designated cancer centers.
