Adult Size

The Cocker Spaniel is a generally even tempered dog that love is tender and affectionate. It is a good watch dog and when well-bred, a companion grand child. It may do well in an apartment as long as she gets frequent walks. A well fenced enclosure is best for the year.

Good with children?

Cocker Spaniels are great with children until they come reasonably good lines. They are so popular that puppy mills are churning them certain traits and poor have been Showing Up. As a reminder, never leave a child unattended with a puppy or dog.

Good with other animals?

Again, they are generally good with other animals as long they were good lines.

This is a very friendly, affectionate dog and they are assets.

Approximate size of adults

The approximate adult size (two years or more) of the Cocker Spaniel is 14 to 15 inches at the withers (highest point of the shoulder) and 24 to 28 pounds.

Special Health Considerations

Most dog breeds have certain inherited health problems associated with that specific breed and the Cocker is no exception. Be on the lookout for eye problems, hip dysplasia dog (genetic based looseness in the hip can cause pain of arthritis and lameness), epilepsy and slipping stifles, IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia), glaucoma and patellar luxation.

She should visit the veterinarian several times in the first year for shots, boosters and check. Then, as an adult, she should visit the vet for shots and yearly check. Grooming

The Cocker Spaniel has a coat soft and silky who needs almost daily brushing. His coat can pick up debris and brambles and it must be brushed to remove her coat before they form carpets and cause skin problems.
